In 2008, UAB Nursing came to us to help them recruit nurses. While UAB could be competitive salary-wise, because it is a state-funded entity, it wasn’t able to offer some incentives that private hospitals could – student-loan payment, for example. To complicate matters, there was a nationwide shortage of nurses. We did our homework: met with recruiters, nurses, students, and attended recruiting conferences. We empowered them with a suite of materials that clearly set UAB apart from its competition.
The results have been profound. Applicants have increased by more than 75%. In fact, UAB now has a prospect database of more than 5,000 nurses. Since 2008, we have continued to create communications pieces for UAB Nursing: annual reports, updated recruiting materials, a video specifically targeting nurses that has been viewed more than 60,000 times on YouTube. And the upshot of it all is this: when it comes to recruiting UAB has their pick of the crop. And when it comes to caring for patients, the UAB Nurse is, simply put, not just another nurse.
